Graviola, or more commonly known as SOURSOP, is a large, spiny, green tropical fruit that has a sweet white flesh with inedible small black seeds.
Beyond its usefulness as a food being the basis for beverages, desserts and other foods more popular in Latin Americas and Asia, soursop also contains natural compounds with medicinal properties.
This fruit has recently gained attention and popularity due to its cancer cell- killing properties, believed to be far better than chemotherapy, or can seek out and attack malignant cells to help suppress further activities, an important measure in the prevention of cancer. It targets only the cancerous cells, leaving out the healthy ones.
Herbalists from the olden times and of present, also recommend the use of soursop fruit and leaves to relieve stomach distress, high temperatures, pain and respiratory conditions like ordinary cough & asthma, among others.
Properties
Soursop fruit contains significant amounts of vitamin C, vitamins B1 and B2. Laboratory and field research have shown the presence of antileishmanial activity fighting off diseases caused by protozoan parasites, & cytotoxic effects, antinociceptive, anti inflammatory, anti-diabetic, and anti-cancer properties in soursop-derived substances mainly from its fruit and leaves.
In a clinical research conducted, consumption of soursop showed a promising outcome in killing cancerous cells in 12 types of cancers, including pancreatic, lung, breast, prostate, and colon.
There is no substitute to good & healthy eating habits and the body can’t process synthetic vitamins the way that it processes the nutrients from natural food. Therefore, consuming natural foods like soursop, increases the body’s natural defence system against all free radicals and harmful chemicals the body is subjected to from day-in to day-out.
